Privacy Policy

What Silva Obscura collects when you play it, on Android, iOS, Windows and Steam — why, who it’s shared with, and the choices you have. It covers the game client and the backend services listed in §5, and nothing else.

01Scope

This policy applies to Silva Obscura across Android, iOS, Windows (Standalone and UWP) and Steam. Where something applies to only one platform — ads, for instance, which run only in the mobile free tier — that's called out explicitly.

02Information we collect

2.1 — What you provide

A display name, and it's optional. Settings asks for one, once, because it's what other players and a leaderboard would see you as — nothing in the single-player game against the AI ever needs it.

2.2 — Collected automatically

  • An anonymous device/player ID, created on first launch so your progress, statistics and unlock persist on that device. It is not your name, email address or phone number, and no sign-in screen asks for either.
  • Gameplay statistics — matches played, wins and losses, faction played, achievements earned, your rating — stored against that anonymous ID.
  • The moves you made, when a match finishes. To keep results honest, the app doesn't report "I won" — it sends the sequence of moves you actually played, and our backend replays them under the game's own rules before the result counts. This never carries anything about you beyond the moves themselves.
  • A purchase entitlement flag — a yes/no recording whether you've bought the one-time unlock (or, on Steam, that you own the game at all), so it can be restored on demand. We never see your card number or billing address; Apple, Google and Valve handle checkout entirely on their own.

2.3 — Advertising data (mobile free tier only)

If you haven't purchased the unlock, an ad appears between matches through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect an advertising identifier — Android's Advertising ID, or iOS's IDFA where you've granted App Tracking Transparency — and standard technical signals used to select and measure ads. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland this is additionally governed by the consent choice you make in Google's consent form on first launch.

This entire category stops the moment you buy the unlock. The paid experience doesn't just hide ads — the SDK that collects this data isn't active in it.

2.4 — What we never collect

Your real name, home address, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, camera or microphone data, or GPS-level location. There's no chat feature and no free-text field anywhere except the optional display name.

03How we use it

  • Save and restore your progress, unlock and achievements on your device.
  • Compute leaderboard standings and match ratings — by replaying the moves you submitted under the game's rules, never by trusting a number the app reports about itself.
  • Show and measure ads in the free tier, and stop the moment you've purchased the unlock.
  • Diagnose crashes and technical problems.

We don't build an advertising profile of you beyond what's described in §2.3, and we don't use anything you send us to train any AI model.

04Multiplayer & leaderboards

Playing a friend or appearing on a leaderboard shares a small, deliberate amount with other people: your display name, faction and rating are visible to anyone viewing that board, and for the length of one match, the moves you make are relayed through our backend so both devices see the same game. Hidden information — which unit is which, until it fights or is scouted — is enforced by each player's own copy of the game reading the same shared rules, the same way it would across a table. Treat a private match as shared with the friend you invited to it, not as anonymous.

05Third-party services

Three services see part of the data above. None of them see all of it, and none of them can see anything the game itself doesn't collect.

06Children's privacy

Silva Obscura isn't directed at children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age where you live), and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them beyond the anonymous technical identifier every installed app needs to save its own progress. If you believe a child has given us anything beyond that, contact us in §11 and we'll remove it.

07Data retention

  • Your anonymous ID, statistics and entitlement flag are kept for as long as the app stays installed with that ID, or until you request deletion.
  • Advertising identifiers are retained only as long as Google's own AdMob and consent policies specify — we don't hold a separate copy.
  • Deleting your data (§8) removes your PlayFab player record entirely: device ID, display name, statistics, achievements and leaderboard entries.

08Your rights & choices

  • Play without an account. The entire single-player campaign against the AI works with no display name and nothing shared with anyone.
  • Turn off ads and their data collection entirely by purchasing the one-time unlock — this removes the AdMob SDK from the running app, not just the ads it shows.
  • Restore a purchase any time from Settings, on either platform.
  • Delete your data yourself, any time, from Settings → Your data → Delete my data — no email needed. It removes your name, statistics, achievements and rating from our servers immediately, and does not touch this device's own saved progress or the unlock. If the button can't reach you (an old build, a connection problem) or you'd rather write to us, email rrudmanis@hotmail.com with your platform and, if you set one, your display name, and we'll do it by hand within 30 days.
  • Regional rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or US state laws such as the CCPA to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. We honor these on request regardless of where you live — §11.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising beyond the AdMob ad-serving described in §2.3.

09Data security

We rely on the security practices of Microsoft Azure (for PlayFab) and of the platform stores that handle purchases, and gameplay data is transmitted over encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

10Changes to this policy

If a change materially affects what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the effective date above and, where required, notify you in-app before it takes effect.
